Pricing Comparison: Solvimon vs Stripe vs Mollie: European payment processing fees compared
Stripe wins on day-zero developer experience. Mollie wins for European webshops. Solvimon runs payments inside your billing infrastructure. The rates are below, the differences matter more.
All three process European card payments, with some differences:
Stripe is a payments company that added billing. Mollie is a payments company built for European commerce. Solvimon is complete billing infrastructure (usage metering, credits, hybrid pricing, invoicing) that processes the payments it bills for built by the team that ran payments at Adyen.
The fee tables above are published rates, no volume minimums. What you actually pay depends on your card mix, which is why the worked example below uses all 4 card tiers.
Solvimon | Stripe | Mollie | |
|---|---|---|---|
Standard European consumer cards | 1.1% + €0.20 | 1.5% + €0.25 | 1.8% + €0.25 |
Premium European cards | 1.5% + €0.20 | 1.9% + €0.25 | 2.9% + €0.25 |
UK cards | 2.1% + €0.20 | 2.5% + €0.25 | 3.25% + €0.25 |
International cards | 2.85% + €0.20 | 3.25% + €0.25 | 3.25% + €0.25 |
iDEAL | €0.20 | €0.29 | €0.32 |
SEPA Direct Debit | €0.20 | €0.35 | €0.35 |
Best for | B2B and AI software with hybrid pricing, invoicing at scale | Developer-led products | European SMBs and webshops |
What would you pay on real volume?
Take a €60 average transaction on a standard European consumer card:
Per transaction | At 5,000 transactions/month | Per year | |
|---|---|---|---|
Solvimon | €0.86 | €4,300 | €51,600 |
Stripe | €1.15 | €5,750 | €69,000 |
Mollie | €1.33 | €6,650 | €79,800 |
For Dutch businesses, iDEAL is usually the bigger line item. At 10,000 iDEAL payments a month: €2,000 with Solvimon, €2,900 with Stripe, €3,200 with Mollie. Flat fees look small until you multiply them.
SEPA Direct Debit is where B2B billing lives (recurring invoices collected by mandate). €0.20 per collection with Solvimon against €0.35 at both Stripe and Mollie.
Of course, you should always run the math on your own mix before deciding.
Premium cards (corporate and high-reward consumer cards with higher interchange) often make up 20-40% of B2B volume in the US, but not so much in Europe - but that's the tier where the gap widens most: Solvimon's 1.5% against Stripe's 1.9% and Mollie's 2.9%.
What the headline rate doesn't include
If you're running subscriptions or usage-based pricing, the processing fee is only part of the stack. On Stripe, recurring revenue typically runs through Stripe Billing, which adds 0.8+% on billed volume on top of processing, with invoicing priced separately. Mollie's subscription tooling is included but built for simpler recurring charges, not metered usage or credit burndown.
Solvimon's rates for billing are 0.4%, so the overall rate is 30% better than Stripe's.
When Stripe is the right choice
You're shipping a product this weekend and you want one API that does cards in 46 currencies with the best developer documentation in the industry. Stripe earned that reputation. If your billing is simple (flat subscriptions, one entity, one currency) and you negotiate custom pricing past €1M monthly volume, Stripe is hard to argue against.
When Mollie is the right choice
You're a European webshop or SMB that wants local payment methods, fast onboarding, and no monthly fees. Mollie's iDEAL, Bancontact, and Klarna coverage is built for exactly that, and their volume pricing kicks in above €100,000 a month. For commerce, Mollie is a fine default.
When Solvimon is the right choice
Your pricing isn't simple - you're running seats plus usage, credits with rollover, commits with overage, multiple entities invoicing in multiple currencies. At that point you're choosing the system that keeps invoices, payments, and revenue data in one ledger, and the card processor comes with it.
Solvimon meters the usage, rates it, generates the invoice, collects the payment (card, iDEAL, or SEPA mandate plus lots more), and reconciles all of it in one system. Your CRM and accounting stack (HubSpot, Attio, Exact) connect to that ledger instead of to 3 tools that disagree with each other at month-close.
The processing rates above come with that. Consider them the floor.
How to evaluate this yourself
Ask 4 questions of any provider, including us:
What's my blended rate across my actual card mix, not the headline rate? Pull last quarter's settlement data and recompute.
What do I pay for billing on top of processing? Per-invoice fees, percentage-of-billings fees, subscription tooling.
Who reconciles payments against invoices, and in which system?
What happens to my fees and my architecture when I add a pricing model next year?
If the answers to 2 and 3 involve more than one vendor, you're paying an integration tax that doesn't show up on any pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
Is Solvimon cheaper than Stripe for European card payments?
The published rates are lower at every tier: 1.1% + €0.20 against 1.5% + €0.25 for standard European consumer cards, with the gap widening on premium (1.5% vs 1.9%) and international cards (2.85% vs 3.25%). Your blended rate depends on your card mix, so compute it on real settlement data - but you can expect around 30% cheaper rates with Solvimon.
What counts as a premium European card?
Corporate cards, commercial cards, and high-reward consumer cards. They carry higher interchange fees from the card schemes, which is why every processor prices them above standard consumer cards. In B2B, premium cards are often a large share of volume, so this tier matters more than the standard rate.
Why do UK cards cost more than European cards?
Since Brexit, UK-issued cards fall outside EEA interchange caps, so schemes charge higher interchange on them. All three providers price UK cards above EEA cards: Solvimon at 2.1% + €0.20, Stripe at 2.5% + €0.25, Mollie at 3.25% + €0.25.
Does Solvimon support iDEAL and SEPA Direct Debit?
Yes. iDEAL is €0.20 per transaction and SEPA Direct Debit is €0.20 per collection. SEPA mandates are collected against invoices generated in the same system, so recurring B2B collection runs without a separate billing tool.
Can I use Solvimon payments without the billing platform?
Payments runs as part of Solvimon's billing infrastructure, but you can of course set it up yourself via Adyen, Stripe, Checkout.com or others.
What about payment methods not listed here?
Mastercard, Visa, Cartes Bancaires, Bancontact, Diners, and Discover are covered by the card rates above - but Solvimon supports dozens of payment methods. See more on our supported payment methods page.
Rates for Stripe and Mollie from their published European pricing pages, June 2026. Both offer custom pricing at volume (Stripe above ~€1M monthly, Mollie above €100,000 monthly). Solvimon rates are standard published pricing.
