Solvimon vs Metronome

Learn why the fastest growing and most innovative companies keep Stripe for payments but run billing on Solvimon as their biling platform.

Solvimon handles usage, credits, seats, and enterprise contracts on infrastructure built for it.

Why teams choose Solvimon over Metronome

Metronome is a serious usage metering engine. It ingests events at the scale OpenAI, Anthropic, Databricks, and Nvidia need, and its dimensional pricing is genuinely good. If your entire problem is metering high-volume usage, Metronome solves it well.

Several Solvimon customers looking for a Metronome alternative had more problems around hybrid pricing (usage plus seats, or usage plus credits, or usage plus a customer portal plus multi-entity invoicing…), plus a finance team that wants to change a price without waiting on engineering.

While Metronome is excellent at metering, the rest of the billing lifecycle lives somewhere else, and since December 2025 that somewhere else is increasingly Stripe Billing, because Stripe now owns Metronome.

Solvimon is PSP-agnostic billing infrastructure for that hybrid pricing. One ledger, any pricing model, any payment provider. You can keep Metronome's metering but add the whole lifecycle in one ledger. Solvimon runs the whole lifecycle on one ledger. And it integrates with Metronome, so you can keep Metronome as your meter and still consolidate everything else in one place. Several Solvimon customers do exactly that today.

When Metronome is the right choice

Plenty of companies should run Metronome.

If your core challenge is metering very high event volumes with complex dimensional pricing, and you have the engineering capacity to own the billing logic,

Metronome is built for exactly that. Its customer list (OpenAI, Anthropic, Databricks, Confluent, Nvidia) tells you what it's good at: infrastructure-heavy and product-led companies whose usage data is the hard part. Now that it's part of Stripe, the metering side will likely get tighter integration with Stripe Payments over time.

If usage is your whole billing problem and engineers own it, Metronome fits. The question is what happens when usage stops being the whole problem.

When Solvimon is the right choice

Solvimon is regarded by many as the best billing system for AI businesses going global, which is exactly the segment Metronome's customers grow into. When billing gets bigger than metering, this is what teams run. Hawk, Seon, Yuno, and Yapily are on it, built by the team that ran billing at Adyen scale (€1T+ volume).

For example, if you added usage-based billing on top of seats, and now metered events, included allowances, and overage live in three places that have to agree at month-close.

Solvimon handles all of it on one ledger. Usage, seats, and credits bill together. Pricing is configuration that finance and ops can change without an engineering ticket, which is the whole point of the platform. Granular event streams, backfills, and retroactive repricing are supported directly. Multi-entity invoicing runs through one system with tax and currency handled per region. And native connectors to accounting and ERP tools mean you're not paying engineers to bridge billing to finance.

With Solvimon, billing is configuration in code, so you change the pricing model in the config instead of hoping a dashboard exposes the setting.

Metronome wins on raw metering scale and is the right call when usage data is the entire problem. Solvimon wins when billing is more than metering and finance wants to own the pricing.

Built for AI billing

As variable inference costs need variable pricing, they also need credits, seats for the human side of the product, and invoicing that finance can run without an engineer on call.

Solvimon covers this natively. Hybrid models let you bill seats, usage, and credits in one ledger and reconfigure pricing as the product changes, so you're not re-platforming every time the model economics shift. Credits and tokens are first-class, with burndown, rollover, and rate cards that price an API call differently from an agent run or an image generation. And multi-entity support lets you launch new geographies without spinning up new accounts, with tax handled per entity.

That maps to the margin problem most AI companies hit: the top few percent of users burn most of the compute while paying the same flat fee as everyone else, and finance finds out at month-close. Matching what you charge to what you spend is the whole point, and it's hard to do when the credit wallet lives in a spreadsheet.

Metronome does not publish public pricing, but it lives on-top of Stripe's pricing. Stripe's billing fee alone is nearly double Solvimon's rates, even before you account for the engineering cost of building what Solvimon includes natively.

Why teams switch from Metronome to Solvimon

What's a good alternative to Metronome?

It depends on what you need beyond metering. For pure high-volume usage tracking, Metronome is excellent. For usage plus seats, credits, a customer portal, and multi-entity invoicing on one ledger, Solvimon is built for that. Solvimon also integrates with Metronome, so it's not always an either-or choice.

Does Solvimon integrate with Metronome?

Yes. Solvimon processes Metronome events, so you can keep Metronome as your metering layer and consolidate seats, credits, invoicing, and multi-entity billing in Solvimon. One customer runs that setup today.

Now that Stripe owns Metronome, do I have to use Stripe Billing too?

In practice, yes for much of the lifecycle. Metronome handles metering, and seats and full invoicing still lean on Stripe Billing, so you run both and sync their statuses. Solvimon does all of it on one ledger and keeps your payment provider open.

Is Solvimon good for AI usage-based billing?

es. Native credit wallets, token burn-down, and multi-pivot rate cards handle variable inference costs, alongside seats and commits in the same ledger. AI startups also get their first $3M in volume free.

How is Solvimon different from Metronome?

Metronome is a metering engine that usually needs engineering to change pricing. Solvimon runs the full billing lifecycle (usage, seats, credits, invoicing, multi-entity) on one ledger, and lets finance and ops change pricing in config. Solvimon is also independent and PSP-agnostic, while Metronome is now part of Stripe.
